Still in Denial Today is Buffett’s Last Day
On December 31, 2025, At age 95, Warren Buffett steps down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway after 60 years.
Rather than bore you with his legendary accomplishments or biography, I’ll simply highlight a few of my all-time favorite Buffett quotes to mark this occasion.
On Investing & Wall Street
“Wall Street is the only place that people drive to in a Rolls-Royce to get advice from those who take the subway.”
“Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.”
“The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient.”
“Only when the tide goes out do you discover who’s been swimming naked.”
“I try to buy stock in businesses that are so wonderful that an idiot can run them. Because sooner or later, one will.”
On diversification: “If you have a harem of forty women, you never get to know any of them very well.”
“Forecasts may tell you a great deal about the forecaster; they tell you nothing about the future.”
On conflicts of interest: “Never ask a barber if you need a haircut.”
On Life & Habits
On being asked what happens after he dies: “I will keep working until about five years after I die, and I’ve given the directors a Ouija board so they can keep in touch.”
“Ask yourself who you would want to spend the last day of your life with and then meet with them as often as you can”.
On Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies: “Cryptocurrencies basically have no value... It’s probably rat poison squared.”
On his diet and longevity: “I checked the actuarial tables, and the lowest death rate is among 6-year-olds. So I decided to eat like a 6-year-old. It’s the safest course I can take.”
On vegetables (his disdain is legendary): “Broccoli, asparagus, and Brussels sprouts look to me like Chinese food crawling around on a plate.”
“There’s nothing like eating carrots and broccoli when you’re really hungry—and want to stay that way.”
I have never seen anyone become happier by moving to a bigger house. People think a larger house will make them happier. In my experience, it mostly just creates more responsibility.
